A unique version of, Ice Kachang!

Gurney Drive

Causeway Point #05-12/13,

Price: $3.50
Rating: 3.5/5

A new outlet at cause way point, this restaurant has a very unique kind of Ice kachang.

Other than having peanuts, it comes with rose syrup, green syrup, corn & beans, jelly of all sorts, and.... Root beer!
Yes! Believe it of not, what looks like "Gula malacca" is actually Root beer!
A very different ice kachang that I have come across, and I although I am not a fan of root beer, I found it quite refreshing! It also comes with strips of dried ginger which adds a chewy feature in the whole dessert.

Keeping it short and simple, I think it is worth a try, if you are bored of the usual ice kachang that can be found almost everywhere! I would not tell you exactly how it tastes, because I personally think that this dish is a tricky dish. And everyone would have different opinions on this!

So why not YOU head down to any Gurney Drive, and order this dessert and let me know how you feel about this?

Bagus Beef Noodles!

By Jonas Tay

Block 226H Ang Mo Kio Ave 1
Street 22
Kebun Baru Market
Price: $4
Rating: 5/5!!!!

This Hong Heng Beef Noodle Soup & Laksa store has won many awards as seen from the photo above. It was even featured in magazines for its outstanding taste. Basically, this is a store which sells beef related food. However, I only tried the beef laksa and the beef noodles(soup) before. I would also strongly discourage you to try out the beef laksa as it is very bland.

What kept me hooked to this dish is the soup and the beef. The soup is very tasty and I would always ask for extra soup. The beef is also very tender and is served with chili which makes it tastier. I would have this for lunch at least 3 times a week as it is that GOOD!!! Be sure to go early as this store closes around 3-4! This

5 Otah you should really try!

Sure you have definitely eaten Otah at some point in your life, but here's 5 places Makansutra featured for you to satisfy your Otah cravings!

1. Nam San Mackerel Otah

267 Joo Chiat road
Opens 7am to 7pm daily

Arguably, the most popular shop specialising in this snack. This little shop can be easily found simply by following the strong whiffs of mackerel otah along Joo Chiat road. A male staff, surrounded by at least 10 smoking-hot open grills, singlehandedly barbeques all seven flavours of otah — mackerel, fish roe, fish head, white fish (non-spicy), squid, prawn and Thai — all cradled in banana leaves. The popular favourite is the thick yet moist and tender original mackerel flavour. We thoroughly enjoyed the Thai otah too, just a tad spicier with a heavier use of lemongrass, but the bones in the fish head otah proved to be too much of a hassle.

Subway - a healthier fast food alternative

By Pang Wan Yee

Subway Singapore
Price: $5
Rating: 4.5/5

On Mundane afternoons, whenever I was craving for fast food, I’ll always go for the healthier alternative – Subway, to satisfy my cravings. To me, Subway is always another alternative to kill two birds with one stone, with the fact that it is both healthy and filling for my petite size at the same time!

Being a boring person, I will always order my all-time favourite Cold Cut Trio regardless of rain or shine! And Subway will never disappoint me, even when I patronise different subway restaurants in Singapore. Alongside with the lettuce, tomatoes as well as my favourite sauces; Mayonnaise and honey mustard, it complements the sandwich perfectly! What’s better than that is the fact of how affordable the meal is. Just by paying $5, (Only applicable to selected choices such as Cold Cut Trio, Veggie Delite, Egg Mayo, Ham and Tuna) you will be able to get a 6 inch subway sandwich, as well as a cup of drink.

So what are you waiting for! Try out this healthier alternative instead of unhealthy fast food such as McDonald’s, KFC, LJS, Burger King and what’s not now!

Chicken Chop Rice!!!

By Jonas Tay

Kebun Bahru Wet Market
Ang Mo Kio Ave 1
#01-110
Price: $3
Rating: 4/5

Firstly, I would like to apologize for not posting. I was tied down with school work which I scrambled to get done. This recommendation is my apology to you guys!

Firstly, who can actually say that they have eaten tasty chicken chop rice for only $3? The chicken is marinated in spice which gives it a little spiciness. However, the sauce which is red wine brown sauce helps add another dimension to this already tasty dish. I would actually say that the sauce is one of the best I have tasted in a long while. The dish is completed with servings of coleslaw, baked beans and french fries. Sorry for the bun which is shown in the picture. I was too hungry at the time and ordered it for an additional $0.50 which is also worth it! Be sure to try the other dishes at the stall too!

4 dishes 3 dollars!

By Abriel Tay

Lawn W6 side
Mixed Vegatable Rice stall
Price: $3
Rating: 4/5

I'm not sure of any mixed rice stall that charge 3 dollars for 4 dishes but I ordered egg, broccoli, chicken and tofu at the lawn mixed vegetable rice stall and was charged just 3 dollars! Value for money at it's best.

The thing that makes this dish even better is that it taste good too. I could eat the broccoli alone, something I do not usually do since I'm not a big veggie fan. I think I might even start to like eating broccoli! The chicken was sliced into bite-sized pieces making it easy to consume and the egg tofu was soft and tasty. There are many other dishes you can try at the stall and they vary their dishes day to day. So head down to lawn and get good tasting value for you money!

Nasi Briyani for only $3.50!!!

By: Sugenya Manogaran

Nasi Briyani
North canteen, Republic Polytechnic
Price: $3.50
Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Be it in shopping malls or hawker centres, most briyani meals would approximately be $5 and above. However, this meal sold at the North canteen of Republic Polytechnic costs only $3.50

Yes, it sounds cheap and most of you would go like CHEAP FOOD WOULD NOT TASTE GOOD. But trust me; the taste of this dish is equally as good as getting one that is more expensive. In fact, it is much tastier.

For those of you, who have a huge stomach to fill, do not worry! A huge portion is served for its cheap price. The briyani rice is served with pappadam, cucumber and a huge chicken drumstick. The gravy is sweet yet spicy at the same time. After finishing the whole plate, you wouldn't mind getting another one. That’s just how tasty it is!

Get your Roti Kirai now!!!

By Cristie Kennedy

Republic Polytechnic
E-co Foodcourt
Malay Cuisine, stall 7
Price: $2.50
Rating: 4/5

Chicken curry, spicy and tingling with flavours, however do all things go well with this wonderful curry everyone loves?

This humble plate of Roti Kirai simply does. Priced at $2.50, you are treated to a generous serving of roti soft and warm. With the warm chicken curry to go with the roti, your tastebuds are in for a pleasant ride.

What I love most about this dish is the harmony of flavours between the roti and curry. Though I sometimes wish a bigger piece of chicken was given, I almost always end up feeling full. Found at the last stall of the Eco Canteen at Republic Polytechnic, this stall delivers delicious treats ranging from noodles to rice and its famous Biryani.

So next time you feel like having some good old Roti Kirai, head down here. The chicken curry and tender soft roti surely won't disappoint. Don't be shy to ask for more curry if you like too.

NASI LEMAK WILL BE YOUR FAVOURITE TOO!

Article and Picture by : Jamie Loo

Nasi Lemak aka Set B.

Located at: Republic Poly's Lawn, Nasi Padang stall.

Pricing: $2.50 (Eating there) / $2.70 (Take away)
Rating: DEFINITELY A 5/5!!!

Set B consists of what you see above, a chicken wing, nuts & ikan bilis, a sunny side up egg, awesome chili and rice. Some of you might fancy set A(Chicken is replaced by a fish fillet) too!

There is something about the chili and the way the chicken is being marinated that this dish it's reputation. Daily, this stall, which is also the first stall once you enter lawn form the main entrance, caters to a long queue of hungry and non hungry students.

I'm sure you have had chicken wings that go all soggy after taking it up to class, or back home right? But somehow this chicken wing manages to stay crispy and fresh! Always warm, I am always trying to guess what the secret ingredient in this dish is. Because somehow, I start hungry, and end hungry(This may or may not be a good thing).

One thing you might want to take note of is that the aunty would be giving you a big scoop of chili to be placed at the side of your pack, and you MUST NEVER stop her! Because the chili, whether you like chili or not, is the finishing touch of the whole meal, and is what makes it complete.

Not to mention it's pretty cheap for a whole meal with meat & a pill or satisfaction! I would eat this at least twice a week, if not more, so I guess you trying it would mean no harm at all!

Catch me in the line to get my Set B! ;)

Ebi Fried Omelette Rice

By Pang Wan Yee

I’ve always been a fan of Japanese cuisine, and having it in school makes it easier for me because I would be able to taste my favourite cuisine at any point of time. And what makes it better is the fact that it is sold at an affordable price!

This Ebi fried omelette rice topped with curry is definitely a must try if you’re feeling hungry because not only the rice comes in a reasonable portion, it is also served with salad, curry as well as 3 Ebi prawn. If you’re a curry lover, you can always request to add more curry without having to pay more! What’s better is the fact that the ebi prawns are always served piping hot and crispy! Together with the omelette rice and the curry, this dish is definitely worth the price.

CAUTION: KNOW YOUR ALLERGIES!

Swollen lips and rashes will spoil your joy of eating.

Adri Zaihan Ahmad, a Republic Polytechnic student who is 19 this year, is an ordinary individual who has a passion for music. With his profound passion, he started a band Singapore 360, together with his group of friends. As Adri recalls, what really keeps them together as a band is the fact that they all love food.

Adri and his band, Singapore 360

Like how salt and pepper goes along so well, Adri and chilli are no different from each other. With his love for spicy food, he feasts on it, on a regular basis.
However, what seemed like a good spicy meal turned a little nasty, for him.

Adri in action

Adri at his own gig

Here’s an exclusive interview with the spice lover who had a tale to tell.

1) Besides being a student of Republic Polytechnic, what do you do?
I actually have an active band outside of school. My band is on hardcore music, it’s a very underestimated genre in my opinion and I think that people should appreciate it more

2) What is your diet like and what type of food do you eat?
Upon my 2nd year of school, I thought that it’s about a time that I took care of my diet. I have been cutting down on a lot of carbohydrates and sugars.

3) Tell us something that we don’t know about you.
I want to be the guards in army. It’s a very big dream for me, for NS especially.

4) Do you have any allergies? How was your first experience like?
I’m not sure of what I’m allergic to, I have and thought that I had an allergy to catfish oh no I meant Stingray. The problem is that I can actually eat a lot of stingray. I was allergic to this sambal chicken in school hence I may conclude that I’m actually allergic to some sambal spice that they put in.

5) Where there any changes in your physical appearance?
First time I had hives, the second time I had it in school, I had swollen lips for an hour or so

6) Did it hurt a lot? Could you still speak?
It felt very numb and I looked stupid. I could still talk but the feeling was very ‘mehh’.

7) When did you realize you had an allergy?
That was really the first time that I realized that I had an allergy to some spice. If you can call it, that’s my hypothesis.

8) Do you still eat what you are allergic to?
Yes I still do, since I’m Malay and I like chicken and I work at Malay weddings. I eat it on a weekly basis. Since 2012, such incidents have not occurred.

9) Do you still go after that food you like?
I still do eat and I go after it. I have minor allergies. Apart from that I still eat, but I feel that I should still find out about what is causing these allergies.

10) Are you fearful that one day you might have a scarier allergy attack?
I’m scared that I may die but still its good sambal. Besides controlling my diet, it’s a good source of protein.

11) What advice would you give to those who don’t know their allergies
My advice is actually, you know you only live once. You can try and find out what you are allergic to. Just eat and enjoy if you’re not fat.

We were not able to catch Adri's reactions live, BUT...

Draw your fill maybe?

Pictures from: Sourced
Article by: Jamie Loo

Cathay Cineleisure Orchard
8 Grange Road, #B1-09
Somerset, 239695

Pricing: Below $5.
Rating: 4/5

I really love noodles, so this is one of my personal favourite dish. You probably have seen many Pontian Wanton Noodle shops around, but my favourite outlet to have this meal will be at Cineleisure, Graffiti Café. If you haven’t been there, you might be happy to know that as its name suggests, you are able to contribute to its graffiti theme in the shop, and you are allowed to leave a message/drawing on almost every part of the shop!

Apart from all the fun you can have with your friends or loved ones, signing your names on the tables or even making fun of the next person that sits there, the wanton noodles there have been quite the talk in town!

The noodles are served in a very traditional rooster patterned bowl. And they taste so good, that when you finish the bowl of noodles, the well-seasoned soup is still warm. The portion is just right for someone like me, but fret not is you are an even bigger eater than me, because you can choose to add extra noodles!

I exceptionally love the chewiness of the noodles, and their fried wanton is freshly prepared, warm, and light in the mouth.

Need I say more? Head down to grab your bowl of noodles this instant!

Claypot Pork Rib Soup

By Pang Wan Yee

Leon Kee Claypot Pork Rib Soup

Alexandra Village Hawker Centre
Blk 120 Bukit Merah #01-18

Price: $5 (Also available in $4 and $6)
Rating: 5/5

This stall caught my eye while I was walking along the lanes of Alexandra Village. The long queues as well as the certificates at the stall attracted my attention and I decided to give it a try.

The soup was served in a claypot, unlike the usual soup which was served in a normal bowl.  The soup was not only fragrant and flavourful, but I was also able to taste the herbs in the soup as well. The pork ribs served was also tender and the stall holder was really generous with the amount of meat provided in the soup. What’s better than that is the fact that the soup can be refillable!

I’ve tried many Pork Rib soup, but this is definitely the best out of all that I’ve tried. It has also won the title of the top 10 best pork rib soup in Singapore! However, be prepared to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes due to the long queue. So give it a try now, and let me know if it tastes as good to you!

Ang Mo Kio Block 107 Carrot Cake

By Jonas Tay

107 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4
Lim-Kopi Coffee Shop
Price: $2/$3/$4
Rating: 4/5 stars

It's back to Block 107 Ang Mo Kio again where there are many delicious food waiting to be discovered. This time, I am recommending carrot cake. Personally, I prefer the black version as it is saltier. This particular store has won numerous awards like the makansutra award for a few years since 2006. Apart from the generous serving of egg and salted radish which gives the dish added sweetness and saltiness, the chili which is served with it is also very spicy with a tinge of garlic taste in it. A must-try for all you chili lovers out there!

The quality of this dish is so good, it is also featured and reviewed on foursquare and hungrygowhere. Be sure to drop by and try this dish if you are anywhere near Ang Mo Kio! Your trip there will definitely not be wasted!

Circuit road Carrot Cake

By Abriel Tay

Fried Carrot Cake
89 Circuit Road Hawker Centre
#01-124
Price: $2.50 / $3.00
Rating: 3.5/5

This carrot cake at Circuit road tastes good and if you look at the picture above, what you see are like pancakes over pancakes of fried eggy goodness.

Think pancakes are good in the morning? Pancake looking carrot cake are even better in my opinion! I'm not really a big fan of pancakes but I don't mind that this pancake-like carrot cake at all. There are around 4 to 5 "pancakes" in the 3 dollar plate and they are quite thick as well. The carrot cake was soft and the fried egg enclosing it simply enhance the taste of the dish.

I shared this with my Dad but if I were to eat this alone, I would probably be quite afraid of carrot cakes for sometime.

So, if you are a carrot cake fan and love having a whole plate to yourself, try this stall if you are around the area!

SEAFOOD FRIED RICE!

By: Sugenya Manogaran

Seafood fried rice@ Mr Teh Tarik
306A Woodlands St 31, #01-750
Price : $4.50
Rating: 4/5 stars

I am sure you would have heard of the famous hot drink, Teh Tarik. But ever heard of the stall, Mr Teh Tarik? Located just opposite the Woodlands Polyclinic, this small coffee-shop has only about 3 to 4 stalls.

A wide range of unique drinks is sold over here. Not only the drinks, but the names of it are extraordinary as well. Such names include the Cocktail Spin and White Spider. And as you must have guessed by the name of the shop, teh tarik is one of their popular drinks. Other than the usual hot tea, you could even have a choice of having iced teh tarik with a scoop of ice-cream.I thought the specialty of the store was the drinks, but I was proven wrong.

The seafood fried rice tasted twice as good. At just $4.50 per plate, you get a huge portion of fried rice. What makes this dish stand out from the rest of the other fried rice dishes out there is the quantity of the ingredients added. There were huge chunks of sotong and egg slices. The dish was accompanied with many shredded cabbages too. With each bite, you would get a mixed taste – the crunchiness of the cabbage and the delectable taste of the rice.

Go grab yours now! Don’t forget to try some of their unique drinks too! J

Rojak stall, EAT MAY KNOW

By Jamie Loo

Eat May Know
Blk 29 Bendemeer Road
#01-32 Bendemeer Market & Food Centre, Singapore 330029
Opening Hours: 8am to 6pm (Daily)
Price: $2
Rating: 5/5

A small stall found in the heartlands of Boon Keng, the Eat May Know stall is known to many relatives of mine for having the best value for money rojak. So I decided to pay it a visit with my Dad to check it out myself.

Upon arrival I could already smell the toasting of the dough fritters and I placed an order for my favourite version of the Rojak- only consisting of dough fritters and “tau pok”. Soon my order arrived and I eagerly took the first bite into what seemed to me a very well toasted dough fritter, so I expected it to be rather hard to bite through. However, the interesting part was that its crispiness was just right, and the inside was still warm, making it soft to bite through. So picture this, hard on the outside, and soft on the inside!

And next I dipped it into the sauce, which was also another shock to me. It seemed as if they has put some “Assam” into it, which gave it a little sour (quite refreshing) taste, along with a little chilli spice and sweet sauce and nuts. Put together they really worked well, complementing each other in my mouth.

would say that the best part of it all is that it is quite cheap, yet the quality of the food has no need to be questioned! Indeed the stall owner must have a lot of skill, as these dough fritters are homemade and prepared. A light, non oily, tasty and satisfying dish you can have at any point of the day, I personally think that it is indeed worth the travel no matter where you live!

328 Katong Laksa

By Pang Wan Yee

328 Katong Laksa
Queensway Shopping Centre, 1 Queensway
#01-60, Alexandra, 149053
Price: $4
Rating: 4/5

The previous recommendation about this stall was actually about Queensway’s famous curry chicken. Today, I’ll be recommending their famous Katong Laksa that is sold only at $4.

The unique selling point of this Laksa is the fact that you do not have to eat it with the aid of chopsticks. This is because the noodles are cut in such a way that it will slurp to your spoon without the need for chopsticks. Thus for people like me who do not know how to use the chopsticks, fret not! You’ll still be able to enjoy this dish without any difficulties! :)

The soup of the Laksa is not only flavourful but also contains a tad bit of spiciness to ignite your taste buds. The cockles served with it is also fresh and do not have any unpleasant smell accompanying it. Together with the fishcakes, prawns as well as bean sprouts, it is definitely worth every cent of your money!

I’m not a fan when it comes to Laksa, so unless it really tastes good; the chances of me eating it again is very slim. However, this Katong Laksa makes me want to return to try it again! So head down now and try their famous Katong Laksa which was previously sold in East Coast! :)

All set for Duck Rice Set

By Abriel Tay

Khatib Huang Restaurant
#01-126
Duck Rice Stall
Price: $3.30
Rating: 4.5/5

For $3.30, you get a tasty duck rice set that comes with braised duck meat, tofu, rice, peanuts and half a braised egg. I consider this great value for money especially after how everything on the plate is tasty.

The meat was tasty and the sauce complement it. What I found unique about this stall is the texture of the tofu. It is easy to chew and goes well with the sauce. The rice was different from the usual plain old white rice and it was a huge factor as to why this duck rice stands out. With white rice, it's difficult for me to eat it on it's own but I can eat the rice from this duck rice stall by it's own and still enjoy it. For all the goodness in the set, I'm giving it 4.5/5 with the only gripe being the average portion of meat (I'm a glutton).

Craving for something spicy this Christmas season?

By: Sugenya Manogaran

Mee Goreng @ The Prata House
Upper Thompson Road
Price: $3.50
Rating: 4/5 stars

Though Mee Goreng is a dish that many midnight diners would turn to, it has never been one of my favourites. However, this one is definitely an exception.

Not only was the dish tasty, but it was so warming to my taste buds. The noodles were soft and spicy, which made me wonder if they added any special ingredient because if they did, I really want to know what it is.

Apart from the noodle, other commonly used ingredients such as bean sprouts, egg and tofu were added.  With every bite, you can taste a bit of everything. Alongside with the noodles and extra ingredients, the spices added make this dish so tasty that you wouldn't mind ordering another plate.

P.S. Do request for less chili, if you’re not a spice lover.

Chocolate waffles from the season!

By Jamie Loo

Salted caramel
246G Upper Thomson Road
Price: $3.50
Rating: 4/5

Hey guys!

For the remaining 11 days of Christmas, you must be wondering where you can go to grab a snack and hang out with your loved ones, friends from overseas, or maybe, just have some quiet time to yourself. And I know just the place for you to do that!

That’s right, it’s salted caramel (SC)! Perhaps it’s the ambience of the place, it gives you the idea that everything there is slow paced and relaxed, and it is a place I like to go when I feel moody! Apart from the different assorted flavours of ice cream you can find, Salted Caramel has just about the best waffles around (second to my mum’s, that is. haha)!

On a particular day, I paid a visit, with the intention to have my craving for something sweet, satisfied. Dropped by SC, and was bothered by the same old, “What flavour do I get?” question. For those that have not been there, fret not if you are as indecisive as me because the staff at SC don’t mind at all!
They were quite generous with their samples which were definitely worth mentioning, and allowed me to better consider the flavour I wanted to, or not settle for.

However, despite trying almost every flavour, I didn’t get any ice cream, instead I eventually went with the simple and common, Chocolate waffle. And as simple as this waffle was, it was simply delicious! Hard on the outside, soft on the inside, and the moisture within the waffle was kept within each bite I took. Not extremely sweet, but a very nice balance of sweetness and reality, and the best part of it was that it was warm! Satisfying on the eyes, and on the tummy, and for that day, I was pleased.

Have some fun this Christmas, have a break from all the work you have been trying to get done, bring a loved one, or a friend to Salted Caramel today! Get your fix too! Oh not to forget, feel free to comment on your favourite flavour of ice cream/waffles too!

Cheers!

Steamed mini buns (Xiao Long Bao)

By Pang Wan Yee

Shang Hai La Mian Xiao Long Bao
Alexandra Village Hawker Centre
Blk 120 Bukit Merah #01-31
Price: $4 (8 pieces)
Rating: 4.5/5

Ever thought that you can only taste delicious and authentic Xiao Long Bao (XLB) at famous restaurants such as Ding Tai Fung, Crystal Jade and Paradise Dynasty? I thought so too! But my perception changed after I visited this stall located at Alexandra village which sells authentic Chinese cuisine.

If you do not know what a XLB is, it is basically a delicate snack that consists of a thin layer of dough wrapping. Closed within, is a small portion of meat engulfed by a flavourful yet light soup based.

To ensure optimum enjoyment of this snack, dip lightly into the vinegar and add some ginger. Then, poke a small hole to release the soup base and consume it while it is hot. But be careful because if it is too hot, you might end up burning your tongue!

So if you’re craving for something light to fill your tummy, head down to Alexandra Village now and try out this delicate snack! Other than XLB, they do sell other food such as pan fried dumplings, shanghai noodles, and more! So check it out now and let me know your take on this snack! :)

Nasi briyani

By Jonas Tay

Ang Mo Kio Block 339 street 31
Price: $5
Ratings: 3.5/5 stars

Nasi Briyani is one of my favourite foods and I will always pick this dish over others if I happen to see a store selling it. This nasi briyani is the top few of my ‘all time nasi briyani’ list. One can even smell the fragrance of the rice from afar. The rice comes in a huge serving too. I have to admit that even I, a self-proclaimed glutton, could not finish the rice. It is bound to fill your stomach and make you rub your tummy with joy. Served with curry, it provides a spicy alternative for you chilli/spicy fans out there too.

However, it is the fried chicken which really whets my appetite. Its skin is salty with a hint of sweetness which acts as a form of ‘appetiser’, making you want more. As seen from the photo, the stall vendors are not stingy with their serving of the chicken too. I must say that my hunger and appetite was more than satisfied after this meal. This nasi briyani is so good, I don’t even feel the pinch of paying $5!!!

Want the Wanton?

By Abriel Tay

51 Mingfa Wanton Egg Noodles
89 Circuit Road Hawker Centre
#01-105
Price: $2.50 / $3 / $4
Rating: 4/5

We all heard of Wanton noodles, but Wanton egg noodles? Okay, maybe some of you have heard of it, but it is something new to me. The noodles were certainly different from the regular noodles I ate and it had a special taste to it. I had no trouble eating the accompanying vegetables because it was surprisingly tasty even though I'm not the biggest fan of it. Perhaps it was the black sauce and chilli that the vegetable was soaked in  that enhance the taste of the vegetable.

The wanton was not the biggest but the skin was smooth and the filling was savoury. It was a pity that there were only 3 floating in the soup. Despite being featured on television shows, the wanton noodles is still humbly priced at $2.50 making it a tasty affordable meal.

Crispy Chicken Bento at just $5.00!

Crispy Chicken Bento @ Snackz It
Bugis Junction Basement

Price: $5.00

It was just another typical day, window shopping with my friends at Bugis Junction.
I have to admit that the basement of the shopping mall was surely a food paradise. Mini shops were lined next to each other selling a diverse range of food, from Japanese pancakes to those mouth-watering donuts.

As melodramatic as it sounds, my feet stopped exactly at the front of the stall, Snackz It. They were selling the crispy chicken bento at just $5.00. Without much hesitation, I bought it and honestly, I have no regrets at all.

While waiting for my dish, I stood there watching how the crispy chicken was being prepared.  Once deep-fried, the chicken is then mixed with different condiments such as pepper and chili powder to enhance the flavor of it.

Alongside with the crispy chicken, a huge portion of steamed rice was served. A spoonful of black pepper sauce was added to complement it.  Other than the rice and crispy chicken, baked beans and coleslaw were also served.

If there is one reason why you should try it, that is definitely because of the unique taste of the chicken. You can eat the rice and chicken as your main meal, and then munch on the baked beans and coleslaw as your dessert!   It’s all in one - grab yours now!
